So, I have an idea - not sure of time frame, but its something to dream about on those cold winter nights.

Why not use an Ettus Research E100 to grab a couple of HDTV channels, record them to a NAS, for later streaming/ playback on Beagles?

An E100 is a software defined radio, but with this twist - it has a Gumstix in it, allowing it to be a full Linux computer, as well as a SDR. With a 50MHz to 2200MHz RF front end card in it, it makes the worlds best scanner.

Ethernet is provided on the E100, and there is a 3RU panel that takes four E100s - which would be quite insane to see! - allowing you to "gang" many systems together. USB OTG, host and console is provided as well as HDMi.

Of course, I'd love to be all open source. I'm hoping I can coax VLC into working the way I want it to... or possibly Darwin Streaming Server? There are options out there... if one knows a protocol, one could feasibly build a server too...

I'm investigating, but at the moment, this is a far out project, without any funding as of now. Hopefully in the not too distant future I can devote some time and cash to it! =)
