Hi,

I bought Beagle-board xM recently and tried to test it by connecting to my Linux PC using a null-modem serial port cable. Just after connecting, I gave
>minicom -o -s -w
Then using serial port setup, i set it for
115200 bps, 8N1 (8 bit with 1 stop bit).
Both Hardware & Software flow control - No.

Saved the set up as df1. Then powered the Beagle-board, I could see lot of boot related messages and Angstrom OS also loading. (Some time I powered the Beagle-board before doing the minicom setup also).
At the end asked for user name. When I tried to enter using my system key-board, same is not reflected in my system display and there is no response from Beagle-board also.

I would like to know how to enable beagle-board xM to respond to my entering of user-name and some where it is mentioned that we can make the beagle board to blink the LEDs. Am I making mistake in configuring the minicom? Kindly let me know.

Thanks & regards,
Anandan.V.S.

Try to start again:

Boot WITHOUT an OS. Just copy xloaded and such to SD:

sudo minicom -s

See this:
+-----[configuration]------+
Filenames and paths
File transfer protocols
Serial port setup
Modem and dialing
Screen and keyboard
Save setup as dfl
Save setup as..
Exit
Exit from Minicom
+--------------------------+

Goto Serial Port Setup

A - Serial Device : /dev/YOURDEVICE
B - Lockfile Location : /var/lock
C - Callin Program :
D - Callout Program :
E - Bps/Par/Bits : 115200 8N1
F - Hardware Flow Control : No
G - Software Flow Control : No

Now press E:

Current: 115200 8N1

Speed Parity Data
A: 300 L: None S: 5
B: 1200 M: Even T: 6
C: 2400 N: Odd U: 7
D: 4800 O: Mark V: 8
E: 9600 P: Space
F: 19200 Stopbits
G: 38400 W: 1
H: 57600 X: 2
I: 115200 Q: 8-N-1
J: 230400 R: 7-E-1

Choice, or <Enter> to exit?

You should get 115200 8N1, press keys I, L, V and W. When you're done, press Enter.

Now in the previous screen, press F to set Hardware Flow Control to Off. You should have this now:

Save as DFL, exit.

sudo minicom

Boot up You should see:

Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.4ss (Aug 19 2010 - 02:49:27)
Beagle xM Rev A
Reading boot sector
Loading u-boot.bin from mmc

U-Boot 2010.03-dirty (Aug 20 2010 - 20:50:46)

OMAP3630/3730-GP ES1.0, CPU-OPP2, L3-165MHz,
OMAP3 Beagle board + LPDDR/NAND
I2C: ready
DRAM: 512 MB
NAND: 256 MiB
In: serial
Out: serial
Err: serial

Probing for expansion boards, if none are connected you'll see a harmless I2C error.

No EEPROM on expansion board
Beagle xM Rev A
Die ID #77f600001bf00000015739ea0701c021 (yours is diff)
Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0
OMAP3 beagleboard.org #

Can you TYPE anything here?? (example: help)

Formatting the SD card via the mkcard.txt script
Download mkcard.txt from: http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

$ chmod +x mkcard.txt
$ ./mkcard.txt /dev/sdx,

Where x is the letter of the card. You can find this by inserting your card and then running dmesg | tail. You should see the messages about the device being mounted in the log. Mine mounts as sdc.

Once run, your card should be formatted.

Then:
(in THIS order)

$ cp MLO /mnt/sda1
$ cp u-boot.bin /mnt/sda1
$ cp uImage /mnt/sda1

Download the above files from: http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

And then try boot cheers

Once you get it all working in xloader (OMAP prompt) we'll get Angstrom working! bounce

If you would like, we can build you a custom Angstrom image with only the packages and GUI you want! You don't need to use what you find on Google! We can help you build one! affraid
